Family beginnings

The is the street that my Nana grew up on, she was born in 1934. She was the eldest and I think they lived here until her 3rd sibling was born. They had the top floor of a tenement building.

Detail of the window of The Dolls Hospital on Georges street. This is where all our broken and sick dolls and teddy's have gone over the years for a bit of tlc. Like the time my younger sister decided to give my doll a 'haircut' when we were younger....Lulu had to be fitted with a wig the haircut was so short!!

A skilled barman in Copper Face Jacks had a different way of letting his pints sit before topping them up to serve. People have mixed feelings about Coppers (myself included), it has a bit of a reputation!! One review I read said;  
“It’s like a zoo where you can touch the animals” Always a night of good craic though.

OK, so to put this in context; We generally don't see melons this big in Ireland, so that's why I stopped to take a photo! These were outside a grocery shop on Camden street.

Detail of the window of Foley's chemist on Thomas street. I don't know if it's the same family as the Foley's on Parnell street, but they both make their own medicines and creams. I swear by their linseed cough tonic, tastes AWFUL but man does it work!

This gentleman sites outside Keogh's Cafe on Trinity street, years and years ago my uncle owned this place. Thankfully the new owner kept the awesomely tasty food, their raspberry scones are delicious.

The window of The Hideout on South William street. A hang out for teenagers for years now, it has a pool hall downstairs and slot machines galore.

Good intentions

This bike has been at this house (no.54 Richmond street) for at least 2 weeks now. You can't really see it in the image, but there was a mouldy sandwich on the seat of the bike!!

Guilty Pleasure

Sooo, after a bit of a bad day today courtesy of one very ignorant individual..........We decided we deserved a treat, and I won't be home for take-out Friday anyway! We headed off to our favourite Chipper, Apriles. Now, my favourite Fish&Chip shop in Dublin is actually Beshoff's (Apriles is a good substitute), and their best one is in Howth. Fish fresh off the boat, and they make the BEST fish-cakes.

I think these are part of a series, because I blogged another one of these in June. That one was 1974. This one is 2004, taken on a lamppost on Richmond Street. I wonder if there's one for every decade? In case you can't read the image, this one reads:

Sooooo.....us being MAD, we decided to go for a swim on Sunday morning. The water wasn't exactly what you would call warm, it being the Atlantic! But it did wake us hungover bunnies up.

Out on the town in Galway on Saturday night, this poster was hung on the wall outside the ladies in Kelly's bar. This was the last weekend of the Galway Races, town was packed. They had closed off the central streets, there were so many people out. Mad craic!

De Mad Hoor in Althlone, on the road down to Galway on Friday we stopped in Athlone for a bite to eat and walked past this lovely establishment! And no, we didn't eat there.

A wee bit late.

Soooo, I was at home in Connemeara, Co. Galway at the weekend. Am late with the posting. And as I was clearly not in Dublin, photos will be of Galway. :)
